The pass we give, that pass we choke on…

It is a much darker world than the one we believe we live in.   I am not talking about the word we create, the friends we make, the laughter and joy crafted by our interests, the fellow humans that we bond with and all that we hold sacred and pleasing.

I am speaking of the WORLD, the place we exist in, pay our bills in, live under the rules of, and are in very real fashion – at the mercy of.

Since I walked into this wonderful dusty town in the 50’s – so much has changed.  An Orwellian breeze grew to occupy the atmosphere and the air we breathe.   The twist in the prediction of Orwell’s 1984 is that became not a fascist, faceless dehumanizing government that ruled all.   It became the rich and powerful who supplanted the government and became the face of “1984”.

Our lives have become ruled by an unapologetic, unelected, group of business leaders and people of financial means.   Without shame, and without hiding their activities and intentions that have destroyed American democracy in our valley.

Developers with coffers filled by the orchestrated theft of tax dollars via clever means – ballot measures, selecting and ensuring the election of lackeys, blatant bureaucrat collusion, and most frightening – use their power over the judicial system (Police, Sheriffs, District Attorneys and courts) to literally harass, bankrupt, demoralize and literally  incarcerate innocent citizens who displease them.

How far our nation has fallen since 1821, when the French author Alexis De Tocqueville wrote in his book –   “Democracy in America”, that equality was the great political and social idea of his era, and he thought that the United States offered the most advanced example of equality in action.

Fast forward to a micro chasm of the decline – Stanislaus County.

I used to be cliché – nameless, faceless men in smoke-filled backrooms pulling strings.   Not anymore, the one who destroy our country do it in the open, unashamed and proud of their theft of taxpayer dollars and destruction of human lives.

They, the who’s-who of our Valley, the ones that David Boring gave a name to – Powerful People of means.

Like lemmings, addicted to brevity and glaring at tweets and quips on smart phones (when not addicted to a 24-hour editorialized, prepacked news cycle – we are to blame.

Some stand and are punished – I know firsthand of which I speak.   Times up – Powerful People of means, you are about to have your sins exposed, and your lives held open for the citizen to see the filth.   Be prepared, Karma is coming.   Big Time.
