Thanks for your blogs on this case. I live in Chico and am watching this case wondering why the State Attorney General doesn’t step in and either take over this case because of the conflicts between the DA and Mr. Carson and the very obvious offering of “special consideration” being offered to the various DA witnesses with charges pending for drugs and other crimes in exchange for testimony in this case. I don’t know anyone charged in this case but if there ever is a guilty verdict it will be years before all the appeals are heard. This case will go down in history in California as the worst criminal justice case ever. I wonder if the Bee’s reporter has any pending charges and has been offered a deal!
THE BACK STORY REPLY
Your observations are appreciated but prove to be troublesome for the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, the City of Modesto and its attorney, and most of all the Modesto bee and its editors.
What is happening here in Modesto can only happen in a climate of fear, and the “stink” of corruption goes much further than Chico California.
The citizens of this County and its cities cannot be blamed for lacking courage to solve the problem.
Searching for solutions might more rightly be characterized as stupid when it could destroy the economic and social well-being of you and your family.
The California State Attorney General does not want anything to do with the Carson case. She is running for the Senate, and is leaving the Stanislaus County DA Birgit Fladager to find a graceful way to get out of this case.
As the former Mayor of the City of Modesto I went through this “criminal justice system”, and I can assure you there will never be a need for appeals because there will never be the jury that will vote for conviction of Mr. Carson and the other eight victims.
DA Marlissa Ferriera asked the court for a “gag order” against Back Story columnist Warren Yates. The judge said, “No, file a motion”
Anyone can be selected for prosecution and the Board of Supervisors seems forced to give the DA and Sheriff Adam Christianson unlimited money… estimated $4 million on Carson case.
Once again, thank you for your comment.
